Shura Council Speaker chairs meeting of Parliamentarians taking part in UNGA emergency session

Speaker of the Shura Council and Chairman of Global Organization of Parliamentarians Against Corruption (GOPAC) HE Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud chaired a meeting of the parliamentarians participating in the UN General Assembly emergency session on combating corruption, held via visual communication technology on Thursday.
In his speech at the meeting, His Excellency stressed the importance of the role of parliamentarians in making the emergency session of the UN General Assembly a success and produce results that contribute to confronting corruption that has a direct negative impact on the development process in many countries of the world and wastes the resources of countries that should have been utilized for the good and welfare of people.
 
The Speaker referred to the large budgets allocated in many countries to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, whether in the field of providing vaccines or tax incentives and incentives for small businesses, adding that it must be ensured that these funds are spent on the intended purpose and not for the benefit of individuals who exploit public money for their own interests.
He further added that the forthcoming declaration to be issued by the emergency session of the UN General Assembly, which GOPAC contributed in drafting, is considered a covenant document by all member states to work together to enhance international cooperation in preventing and combating corruption as well as its roots and causes.
