The Qatar Museum announced on Instagram that police had arrested six people who vandalized Richard Serra's East-West/West-East sculpture.

Police have been roaming the area for the past two months to keep an eye on this public art installation. According to the Qatar Museum, East-West/West-East is one of Qatar's most iconic art installations, found in Zekreet, Al Shahaniya Municipality, and is Richard Serra's second installation after '7.'

This artwork stretches about a kilometre and connects the waters of the Gulf by crossing the peninsula of the Brouq Nature Reserve. It is made up of four steel plates that are weighed in relation to the topography. The plates, which rise between 14.7 and 16.7 metres above ground level, are level with each other and with the gypsum plateaus on each side. Despite their great length, all four plates can be seen and explored from either end of the sculpture.

In March 2020, the Qatar Museum declared that a specialized cleaning procedure would begin in response to intentional harm caused by tourists, and in November of that year, it launched an anti-vandalism programme.
