Abijit Ganguly’s special solo online show which focused on constant interaction with the audience came as a breath of fresh air.

Last Friday evening, one of India’s popular standup comic Abijit Ganguly delighted online viewers with his inimitable style of comedy hovering around anecdotal, observational humour with occasional self-deprecation and general satire.

But what really caught the audience’s attention was his constant interaction and harmless verbal jibes that generally vibes well in an online show.

Whether it was the college kid yet to step in the big bad world, or the family that constantly hankered over their pet dog, or the Don-like character wearing dark sunglasses in overly lit room to the two pairs of young couple trying hard to outdo each other and many others were all easy nit-pickings for the veteran standup artiste.

His unofficial tag line for the standup comic act,‘Life has many ups and downs’ gave in insight into the mundane humdrum every day common man’s existence that is at times spiced up with bouts of humour – mostly unintentional and freakily funny in hindsight.

Ganguly’s portrayal of Indians mums who are constantly worried if their children have eaten and eaten well was a topic he milked to the maximum.  Another obsession most mothers do naturally have for their ‘marriageable aged’ children is - the never-ending worry as to when they are going to tie the proverbial knot.

The online viewers were not only from Qatar for whom the exclusive “free show” was specifically meant but also from certain Indian cites and even others from around this region.

Ganguly first shot into fame in 2010 whilst performing in an ‘open mic’ contest in Delhi, organised by the comedy collective Cheese Monkey Mafia. He soon started getting some pub and bar gigs followed by smaller corporate and college shows.

In 2014, Abijit started pursuing comedy full time featuring frequently on NDTV prime, Zoom and media publications, such as Times of India, Hindustan Times, Statesman, Hindu, etc and was a regular face at the Canvas Comedy Club branches around cities in India.

Ganguly has also written a web-series titled ‘Joint Venture’ for Times on their MensXP platform and has performed extensively in his home country and to the Indian diaspora spread across the globe.

Title sponsors of the event were Daiso and HOMES R US, Associate sponsor - 360 Realtors, Gold sponsor - Marhaba Tourism and Digital Partner - QatarDay – Pulse of the Nation.

The show was supported by IBPC (Indian Business & Professionals Council) and SUCQ (Stand Up Comedy Qatar).

The event was brought by ONE FM 89.6 and The Punchliners.

Tickets to the show were free through online registration with Punchliners.in and Q-Tickets who are the leadership brand in entertainment space besides being the one-stop platform for movies, sports, events and leisure activities.
