Super Moon to appear over Qatar Sky on Tuesday

The Moon will arrive at full Moon phase on the evening of coming Tuesday, February 19, 2019, at 6:53 Pm Doha local time, the full moon on Tuesday will be called "Super Moon"; where it will be at the nearest point in its orbit around the Earth; moreover, Moon will be at 357000 km from Earth's center. Qatar Calendar House (QCH) announced.

The full moon this month will be different other full moons because it will be Super Moon, i.e. it  might look a bigger and brighter than the other normal full moon; where it will appear approximately 14% larger than a normal full moon, added, the illuminated area appears 30% bigger. Astronomer expert at (QCH) Dr. Beshir Marzouk said.

Qatar and all Arabic residents will have a good chance to seeing and observing Super Moon phenomenon during full night; moreover, they not need to astronomical instrumentation to can see and observe Super Moon; so they can seeing Super Moon with naked eye from time rise of the Moon over eastern Horizon on Tuesday till the time set of the Moon in western horizon next day. For Qatar country, the Moon will be rise over eastern horizon of Qatar sky on Tuesday at 5:22 Pm, while it will be set next day in Qatar sky at 6:41 Am Doha local time.

Dr. Marzouk added, the Super Moon phenomenon is inverse of the Mini Moon phenomenon, where the Super Moon occurs when a Full Moon passes around Perigee point (nearest), while when a Full Moon passes around Apogee (furthest) point, it's called a Micro Moon or Mini Moon.

For more information, Super Moon happened last time on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, while it will happen again in March and April next year (2020).

This astronomical phenomenon is important because the Hijric calendar depending on Moon's motion in its orbit around the Earth, consequently the phases of the Moon changes every day along Hijric month.

As known, Moon moves in its orbit around Earth on Ellipse (elliptical) orbit, so the distance varies between Moon and Earth's center.
