The first hatching of hawksbill turtle in Fuwairet Beach recorded

The Ministry of Municipality and Environment represented by the Department of Protection and Wildlife announced the registration of the first case of hatching of endangered hawksbill turtle nests on Monday (8 June) in Fuwairet Beach.

Members of the project team recorded the required data and released (54) young turtles to the sea, amid all precautions that guarantees of the safety of the project team.

 

 

 

The number of nests transported to the protected site at Fuwirt Beach reached (118) nests. Work is underway in the scope of the turtle protection project under the supervision of the MME and funded by Qatar Petroleum and the implementation of the Environmental Sciences Center at Qatar University in cooperation with a team from the Department of Protection and Wildlife.

The project covers the northeastern beaches of the country (Ras Laffan Beach, Huwaila, Al Jassassiya, Al-Marawnah, Fuwairt, Al-Ghariya, Al-Mafeer), and the islands (Umm Tais, Ras Rukn).

Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) is a service Ministry directly related to the general public, in order  to meet the many requirements of their daily life, and contribute through its subsidiary departments, municipalities and centers,  to the rapid development  of the State of Qatar. This is in line with Qatar National Vision 2030, that aims to place the country among the developed countries, based on the pillars of human development, economic, social and environmental development.

In the areas of environmental affairs, the Ministry is tasked with a number of objectives, in the forefront of which, is the following:

- Environmental Protection and maintaining the natural balance through a comprehensive and sustainable development for the benefit of future generations, which is achieved through the development of wildlife and preparation of laws and appropriate solutions for all environmental issues and follow up its implementation.

- Training the Qatari cadres on how to make the environmental protection a reality, as well as fostering attention to environmental awareness.

- Coordinating  the efforts of all government bodies and non-government organizations to protect the environment and cooperate with the countries of the region and internationally, through ratification of environmental conventions and protocols.
