The State of Qatar affirmed that it will continue to provide support to the Yemeni people to help them overcome the humanitarian difficulties that burden them, at a time when they are still looking forward to the peace and stability they deserve and to get out of the crisis as a prosperous and safe country.

This came during Qatar's speech in the Virtual High-Level Pledging Event for the Humanitarian Situation in Yemen, given by HE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.

His Excellency expressed the State of Qatar's support of the UN efforts and initiatives, represented in the UN Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for Yemen, to push for a resolution through dialogue.

His Excellency stressed on the importance of ending the crisis through negotiations between Yemenis in line with the outcomes of the national dialogue, the GCC initiative, and commitment to UN Security Council resolutions especially resolution no. 2216 in order to achieve sustainable peace and development as well as to improve the humanitarian conditions in Yemen.

He praised the pivotal role played by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs for their role, noting that the State of Qatar was one of the leading countries who support the office.

He added that the State of Qatar provided Yemen close to $195 million from 2013 to 2020, to support development efforts. He added that the State of Qatar pledged $70 million, $10 million of which were disbursed by Qatar Fund for Development in the field of water and sanitation since 2018 for three years in cooperation with UNICEF.

He added that there was support of $5 million to the UN Populations Fund, $800 thousand of which were disbursed to 800 thousand people in the health sector. As for housing, support of $2 million was provided for the United Nations Human Settlement Programme.

HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs thanked HE UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, Vice President of Switzerland and Head of the Department of Foreign Affairs Ignazio Cassis, HE Minister for Foreign Affairs of Sweden Ann Linde for sponsoring the high-level event, saying it reflects the international community's commitment to its humanitarian responsibilities and to facilitating the access to aid in Yemen.

He renewed the State of Qatar's appreciation to all countries and authorities working on honoring their international responsibility in helping Yemen and Yemenis. (QNA)
