Things to do this weekend in Doha, Qatar (September 3-5, 2020)

The start of final Phase Four’s lifting lockdown restrictions started on the first of this month. Doha Metro, cinema halls, malls, food courts, souqs and eating establishments are now open subject to the precautionary pandemic measures laid by the authorities.

Here is a list of things to do over the weekend. Although, most of the events are online and outdoor events require one to strictly follow all preventive pandemic measures – it is still a good time to enjoy this weekend with family and friends.

National Museum of Qatar’s virtual expo

This exhibition is being hosted on the Google Arts & Culture platform features content from over 2,000 leading museums and archives who have partnered with the Google Cultural Institute to preserve and bring the world’s art and culture online.

DFI’s Ajyal Film Festival 2020

The eight edition of Ajyal Film Festival - flagship of Doha Film Institute (DFI) is set to take place from November 18 to 23 in a new hybrid format.

DFI has started accepting juror applications from Qatar and beyond for this year’s popular annual children’s festival.

Short film competition by Sundance TV

SundanceTV has announced its first-ever Shorts competition in the Middle East and North Africa region, following last year’s successful South Africa edition. This year’s winning entrant and three runners-up will have their films broadcast on SundanceTV later in the year.

Qatar Museums exhibitions

As per previous weeks, Qatar Museums (QM) major exhibitions at the Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art and the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) continues.

Visitors are required to reserve tickets in advance on the QM website. During the visit they must present a “green” health status on the Ehteraz virus-tracing app and wear face masks for the duration of their visit.

Picasso exhibition at Fire Station

The exhibition features 108 extraordinary artworks by Pablo Picasso selected from the unparalleled collection of the Musée national Picasso in Paris, including paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and ceramics.

The museums, galleries and heritage sites are open between the hours of 9am to 3pm. According to the current situation, visitors are required to reserve tickets in advance on the QM website. Those of 12 years of age and older are required to wear masks, present a “green” health status on the Ehteraz virus tracing app and are checked for normal temperature at the entrance.

MIA Online

Qatar museums are now open to limited public and tickets have to be purchased in advance on the QM website.

You may also access the collection online which includes masterpieces of Islamic art, metalwork, ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, and much more from three continents dating from the 7th to the 19th century.
