Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Affirms Keenness of Wise Leadership to Combat Corruption

HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Sultan bin Rashid Al Khater affirmed the keenness of the wise leadership in the country to combat corruption and enhance transparency to protect public money and society from all forms of corruption.

During a speech delivered today, at the opening of the workshop on the "Code of Conduct and Integrity of Public Officials", organized by the ministry in cooperation with the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority, His Excellency pointed out the importance of this charter, which was issued in 2020, in strengthening the rule of law and protection against corruption.

His Excellency added that the code of conduct came as a continuation of the tireless efforts made by the State of Qatar under the directives of HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani in order to combat corruption and enhance transparency to protect public money and preserve the states capabilities and assets, which would contribute to fortifying the work environment and the societal system against all forms of corruption.

His Excellency said that the importance of the code of conduct and its content lies in activating the values and principles of integrity and transparency, within the concept and practices of the public office, to reduce job abuses, and to strengthen controls for compliance with regulations, laws and administrative procedures in all state facilities and institutions, and this will cement the citizens confidence in the states agencies and its affiliates, in accordance with the requirements of the rule of law and the preference of the public interest.

 

His Excellency pointed out that organizing the workshop comes as a continuation of the efforts made by the state to develop its functional cadres, and to enhance the principles of integrity and transparency.

His Excellency indicated that work will be done to deepen the understanding of the employees of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the principles and rules of the Code of Conduct and Integrity of Public Officials first, then formulate the appropriate mechanisms to work with its decisions and ensure continuity of its obligations.

This two-day workshop, with the participation of the leaders of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, comes within the framework of the Ministry's efforts to develop and support the skills of its employees, consolidate concepts and standards of integrity and transparency, introduce the Code of Conduct and Integrity of Public Officials and motivate compliance with the provisions stipulated in this regard.

The workshop will witness the participation of the Director of the Control and Development Department at the Administrative Control and Transparency Authority Amal Ahmed Al-Kuwari, who will shed light on the Code of Conduct and Integrity of Public Officials, which was issued by Cabinet Resolution No. 18 of 2020, and contains 19 articles applicable to government agencies.

The workshop also addresses the functional competencies, the articles of the Code of Conduct and Integrity and its relationship to the work environment and the rules and behaviors of the public employee, in addition to shedding light on the procedures to implement the rules and principles of integrity and transparency in the public service by offering practical examples in the field of procurement, tenders, service provision and dealing with superiors, colleagues, and clients.
