Doha: Vodafone Qatar is partnering with Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) to support the charity’s efforts in treating cancer patients and raising awareness of the disease.

Vodafone will be providing financial assistance for treating cancer patients, who are otherwise unable to afford it. Additionally, Vodafone, through its significant social media channels, plans to follow-up and raise awareness of the importance of early detection.

Vodafone, in collaboration with QCS, will continue its annual cancer awareness session for its employees. Vodafone launched this initiative coinciding with the World Cancer Day on 4 February, which is a global observation that helps to increase the recognition of cancer by individuals, and how to prevent, detect and treat it.

The World Cancer Day is observed every year with an aim to save millions of preventable deaths every year by educating people about cancer.

Sheikh Hamad Abdulla Al Thani, CEO of Vodafone Qatar said that Vodafone Qatar’s support for this important work carried out by the QCS, intending to support, empower and advocate for people living with cancer, is part of their ongoing expansion of corporate social responsibility. He added that this initiative reaffirmed Vodafone’s commitment to the citizens and residents of Qatar to help raise awareness of the disease and to give full attention to this crucial cause.

He further added that the private sector shoulders a huge responsibility to its community, and Vodafone will continue to do everything in its power to give back.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of QCS, Sheikh Dr Khalid Bin Jabor Al-Thani, thanked Vodafone Qatar for its continued support and added that it was wonderful to see this kind of extended support from all institutions operating across Qatar. He also stated that it is of extreme importance to increase awareness and to introduce educational activities to highlight the disease.

He also emphasized the urgent need for partnerships aimed at working regularly on cancer control, which is above all a charitable and humanitarian act, as well as a duty and commitment to the citizens and residents of Qatar.

In the previous year, QCS helped treat around 1,350 patients at a cost of QR19.5 million and is expecting to treat around 1,500 patients in 2021, requiring QR22 million in funding.
