Women Empowerment stems firm conviction of a wise leadership, says QU President

Qatar University President HE Dr Hassan Rashid al-Derham affirmed that empowering Qatari women to play their roles in building the nation is an authentic Qatari approach and a policy that stems from the firm conviction of the country's wise leadership.

In a speech given during the graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020 on Monday, Dr al-Derham said that the celebration of the new QU batch is a celebration of the position Qatari women have achieved in making the future of the country and that the State is witnessing its renaissance across all fields.

Regarding Qatari women's role in the country's efforts against Covid-19, the QU president said that the pandemic has proven that Qatari women, whenever they are put to the test and given responsibility, are up to the responsibility and challenge.

Dr al-Derham noted that Qatari women's success is not a current or urgent matter, but rather an authentic approach in Qatari society, and empowering them is a policy that stems from the firm conviction of the wise leadership.

He referred to the achievements made by QU to become one of the best elite universities in the world, thanks to the continuous support of the rational government and the close follow-up from the board of trustees.

He pointed out that QU was ranked 245 in the QS World University Rankings, while many of its colleges and programmes have obtained academic accreditation from the most prestigious international bodies, which clearly confirmed that what QU fields offer is no less in terms of scientific content and academic quality than that offered by the most prestigious international universities.

QU will continue its quest to provide what is best for students and the Qatari community, especially in light of challenges at the local and global levels, he added.

Dr al-Derham said that to provide distinguished education in which students gain a unique experience that leads them towards success in their lives, QU is working to support its vital sectors of education, research, and student success.

In this context, he pointed out that QU has completed the development of three main frameworks, which are the framework for excellence in education, the characteristics of QU graduates, and the student experience.

He explained that these three frameworks aim to make a qualitative leap in the students’ academic experience by providing an integrated educational experience and various practical experiences, inside and outside the classroom.

This is done by developing educational practices and focusing on providing the student with specific and clear competencies, including specialised knowledge, general culture, practical skills, values and trends, and a humanitarian, Arab, Islamic, Qatari identity.

HE urged female students to continue their educational career and gain knowledge and professional experiences, stressing that the university will spare no effort in providing support to female graduates as it is the starting point and reference to which the graduate returns whenever they need further knowledge.

The QU president appreciated the important role that parents play in supporting female students in all educational stages and expressed his thanks and appreciation to the faculty members at QU, who had provided their minds and deep experience in building a generation of promising female graduates.

The number of outstanding female graduates who were honoured was 374 out of a total of 2,455 female graduates from the Class of 2020.

On Sunday, QU witnessed the graduation of 733 students of the Class of 2020 in various disciplines.
