“It’s #ThrowbackThursday! Released 23 years ago this month, these views of Jupiter’s northern and southern auroras were taken in ultraviolet light by Hubble. The auroras are brilliant curtains of light in Jupiter’s upper atmosphere,” states the Instagram post by NASA Hubble. As per NASA, Jupiter has the most powerful auroras in the solar system. The image shared by NASA has already garnered over 1 lakh likes and 200 comments where people are awe-struck by the stunning images.

For the uninitiated, Hubble, the observatory, is the first major optical telescope to be placed in space, the ultimate mountaintop, states NASA. Hubble has an unobstructed view of the universe and scientists have used it to observe the most distant stars and galaxies as well as the planets in our solar system.
