The Qatar Men’s Basketball League runners-up Al Shamal and Al Sadd marched into the semi-finals of the Qatar Cup yesterday.

At the Al Gharafa Indoor Hall, American star Jonathan Michael Lee’s match-high 37 points went in vain as Al Ahli lost to Al Shamal 95-90. For the winners, Mujkic Emir scored 30 points, while captain Salem Omar Abdelkader scored 21 points and Abilmona Fadi chipped in with 14 points.

In the second match of the day, with the help of a match-high 26 points from Lampropoulos Fotios, Al Sadd defeated Al Rayyan 90-71 to enter last four stage of the tournament. Dieng Babacar and Omar Sadd also contributed 16 and 14 points respectively. For Rayyan, Efevberha Michael netted 22 points, while Nix Tavarion and Aref Hani scored 21 and 16 points respectively.

Al Wakrah, who defeated Al Khor in the first match of the tournament on Tuesday, will take on Qatar league champions Al Gharafa on January 30 for a semi-final spot.

The semi-finals will be held on February 1 and 3.
