Sunday will see supporters given the chance to say their goodbyes to two of the club's best-loved players

Leeds United have confirmed that Gaetano Berardi and Pablo Hernandez will leave the club at the end of the current season.

The duo are two of the club's most-loved players, both having key roles in helping the Whites win promotion back to the Premier League, and supporters will have the opportunity to bid an emotional farewell to the pair on Sunday when a limited number fans finally return to Elland Road.

Berardi is the club's longest-serving player, having joined Leeds from Sampdoria in 2014 and has made more than 150 appearances over the past seven years.

The Swiss made his long-awaited Premier League debut on Tuesday evening when he came on as a half-time substitute against Southampton, which marked his first appearance since the penultimate match of the 2019-20 Championship promotion campaign, where he sustained a serious knee injury.

He signed a one-year contract extension last summer as he worked his way back to fitness and now leaves as a free agent.

Hernandez initially joined Leeds on a six-month loan deal in August 2016 and soon signed a permanent contract after he quickly became the creative fulcrum of the team.

He would win the club's Player of the Year honour for three seasons in a row between 2017 and 2020, showing just how key he has been at the club in recent seasons.

His signature moment in a Whites shirt came at the climax of the 2019-20 promotion season when his last-minute winner against Swansea City was perhaps the key goal in securing promotion back to the Premier League.
