Squash: Kiwi star Paul Coll reaches Qatar Classic final

Kiwi squash star Paul Coll is through to the final of the Qatar Classic for the first time in his career after overcoming Fares Dessouk in a straight sets win on Saturday (NZ time).

Coll needed just 37 minutes to beat Dessouk 11-9, 11-0, 11-0 and the Kiwi will now face world No.1 Ali Farag for the title.

The final will be a repeat of  March's 2020 Windy City Open decider in Chicago when Egyptian Farag came from two games down to win the title in a thrilling battle.

For the second time in six weeks, Coll eased past Frenchman Baptiste Masotti during the third round of the Qatar Open in Doha.

Coll won in three games 11-7, 11-5, 11-8 in just under 40 minutes.

Masotti troubled the New Zealander at times, but unforced errors would prove to be his undoing as Coll worked his way to victory.

He said aggression was key to victory in Doha.

“I needed to attack the ball a bit more and to be in control.”

Coll faced another Frenchman, No.17 ranked Gregoire Marche, in the other round.
