Advanced products with anti-covid technology to gain prominence in 2021

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a dramatic socio-economic disruption in human life worldwide. In India itself, over 9 million plus people have been infected by the virus. The pandemic challenged public health and the functioning of activities. People are still left pondering with the basic questions about ensuring the wellbeing of family and livelihood. Despite all pre-cautionary measures involving sanitisation, social distancing and masks, people are scared to touch their loved ones, they are scared of their indoor environment as fear of the pandemic lurks on.

On a positive note, developments around the COVID-19 vaccine have been gradual and progressive. It might take some time to effectively reach the masses. Till then, organisations are exploring technology in all forms from Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI), IoT, Analytics etc. to innovative hardware products to combat the virus. Digital technologies in form of contact tracing, surveillance, testing, clinical management to name a few have come to speed, in the current situation. Consumer Durables industry too has advanced its offerings from conventional to smart, offering value proposition in form of comfort, convenience, and connected experience to their lifestyle.

Work from home and remote learnings trends, have made people realize the necessity of technologically advanced products that are capable of keeping them safe indoors. Therefore, home appliances were the quintessential companions that helped them multi-task, stay entertained (LED TVs), stay hygienic (Vacuum Cleaners and Washing Machines), aided in cooking and storage (Microwaves and Refrigerators) and personal grooming (Trimmers, Hair Dryers) to name a few.

Change in consumer behavior with preference towards safety and hygiene has led the consumer electronics industry researching, innovating and offering products that are scientifically proven to keep consumers safe from COVID-19. For instance, using Hydroxyl Radicals in the air conditioners. Hydroxyl radicals are naturally occurring highly reactive components found in our troposphere, which are commonly known as “nature’s detergent” due to their ability to inhibit pollutants, odours, and even viruses. The air conditioners powered by technology using Hydroxyl radicals cleanses and deodorizes the air by producing nano-sized electrostatically charged water particles. Similarly, organisations such as Vehant Technologies runs an artificial intelligence (AI)-based traffic enforcement solution (TES) for covid analytics. Technology is the protective shield that is helping us stay cautiously optimistic.

Spending most of the time indoors, consumers now have realized the need to make their living spaces better and are opting for upgrades in home appliance enabled with anti-COVID-19 technologies. It is an opportunity for the electronics industry to collectively explore and invest in technologies that will make consumers’ life healthy and safe. We believe, the demand for consumer durables is likely to sustain in the long run as market penetration of appliances continues to remain low leading to create a substantial opportunity. Therefore, it is an opportune time for the ACE industry to offer value-based appliances that not only are convenient and connected but, ensure safety and hygiene too.
