Facebook Is Still Trying To Integrate WhatsApp And Messenger Chats Via A Common Interface
Facebook has been planning to integrate its chat services on Messenger and Instagram with WhatsApp for a while now, in a bid to create an all-in-one platform.

Although things haven't progressed as quickly as Facebook might have hoped, the company did manage to integrate Messenger with Instagram DMs last year. The next step? Attempting to merge Messenger and WhatsApp chats.

As per Italian code-digger Alessandro Paluzzi whose also a rather regular source of reliable leaks, has found (via WABetaInfo) a WhatsApp chat hidden inside the Facebook Messenger code. While it's not possible to integrate both the services just yet, Paluzzi forced a thread to be recognised as a WhatsApp conversation to show how it will look when the feature is available in the future.

From what we see, the interface looks exactly like the one Facebook uses on Messenger. The only new element being the inclusion of a tiny WhatsApp logo place inside the user's chat bubble. The tipster implies that the connection between WhatsApp and Messenger is going to be optional – as is already with Instagram and Messenger. WABetaInfo, meanwhile says that “several features that have been already implemented on Facebook Messenger might likely come in WhatsApp too.”

Another feature the app is testing through the TestFlight beta program is a redesigned mention badge, which is different than a reply within a group chat. WABetaInfo says it’s still being tested for iOS so it might take a while before appearing in the WhatsApp account.
