COVID-19: Rs 1,000 fine for not wearing face masks in Karachi

Sindh province reports 241 new cases of coronavirus

Karachi’s Administrator Iftikhar Ali Shallwani has proposed to the Sindh government to impose a fine of Rs 1,000 to anyone not wearing a face mask in the public places in the city.

Talking to media persons, the Karachi’s administrator said that he had proposed the fine to the government in view of increase in the coronavirus cases in the country especially in Karachi.

He said that they had proposed a fine back in March or April this year when the coronavirus cases had started to increase in the city but the provincial government didn’t accept the proposal at that time.

He said that the proposal had once again been sent to the provincial government to save people of the city from the second wave of the deadly pandemic.

Any person infected with coronavirus could face fine under this ordinance if he or she violates the isolation or quarantine orders of the government to contain spread of the infectious disease. Likewise an institution could face penalty under this ordinance if the spread of infectious disease takes place among its workers due to the lack of the precautionary measures or violation of the Standard Operating Procedures related to the anti-coronavirus lockdown regime.
