Al Thoraya

 We’ve heard mixed reports of Al Thoraya at the Gulf Paradise Hotel and although some appear to have had a good experience- we were far from impressed. The hotel itself is 3 star and is of a good standard but it’s a pity that the same can’t be said for their restaurant. The décor is outdated and the restaurant isn’t very inviting to look at and in desperate need of an upgrade. On the positive side the staff were friendly and eager to attend to our every need. We were far from overwhelmed by the food though- we dined fairly late into the evening and by the time we had helped our selves to the buffet it was cold, dried up and not very appetizing to say the least. Instead of specializing on a couple of cuisines and letting the chef excel, Al Thoraya offers a different type of food each day of the week and for that, the standard of food suffers. At around 60 QR for the buffet though, it’s not expensive- but in our opinion, there are a lot better places to spend your riyals in Doha.
