Minang offers a style of cooking that derives from the Minangkabau ethnic group, an indigenous group originating from the highlands of West Sumatra. The staple ingredients of the Minangkabau diet are rice, fish, coconut, green leafy vegetables and chili and this restaurant here in Doha really does embrace their indigenous roots and recipes. Here at Minang Indonesian Restaurant in Doha the food is cooked and seasoned well and it is tradition to eat using your hands. Many people find the food overpriced in such a restaurant and we would have to agree that they do charge a lot compared to the size of the portions. Saying this, eating out in Doha is expensive and this restaurant compared to most is very reasonable. Parking can also be a bit of an issue here and can often take up to 10 minutes to find a space. But this should not put anyone off from dining here. The décor of the restaurant is nothing to look at– infact the main dining room is pretty plain, without any charm with a sorry TV playing in the corner. The food is served in a separate room, off the main dining area. The experience won’t be for everyone but if you’re looking for some culture and some alternative cuisine to what you normally have, then Minang is definatly worth a try.
